Ilya's Redemption Arc: When Neutering Is the Answer
Ilya is not happy about recent events. His cagemates and foster parents, however, are absolutely thrilled.

Matilda's arthritis has progressed significantly. The severity in her knee is now affecting the way she walks — more noticeably than her already distinctive gait. We are increasing her pain management and, importantly, beginning Adequan trials for the guinea pigs in our sanctuary with the most advanced cases of osteodystrophy and arthritis.
Today marks one year since Sonnet came into our lives — and what a year it has been. When she arrived, she was hairless and miserable, her body struggling with a hormonal condition that is genuinely rare even among guinea pig rescuers.
Going through old photos sometimes sends you down a beautiful rabbit hole. This week, Danni found a gem: a photo of Casper, one of the very first intakes when HALT was just getting started — and the guinea pig who taught her more than she ever expected.
Did you know that March 23rd is National Chinchilla Day? We couldn't let it pass without introducing you to some of the very special chinchillas living in our New Hampshire sanctuary!
This is Tally — our second oldest guinea pig in the rescue, and one of the animals who inspired us to try something new in our approach to arthritis management. We want to share what we are learning, because it may be useful to other guinea pig owners managing senior animals.
February is Pet Dental Health Month, and our friends at Wheektopia Guinea Pig Care and Rescue Center have given us permission to share an extreme case they are currently managing. PB's story is a powerful reminder of why routine wellness exams matter — even for the smallest of animals.
This is Calliope's story. It is a story about a skin condition that started small, was mismanaged before she came to us, and ultimately became something far more serious. We are sharing it because we believe her experience can help other guinea pig owners recognize warning signs and advocate for their animals before things escalate.
What a year it has been. As we step into 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on everything we accomplished together — and to thank every single person who made it possible.
